Jimmy Ray Slaughter was Executed this Evening
After the Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals rejected an appeal for Jimmy Ray Slaughter on Thursday, the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals denied an appeal on Monday, and the U.S. Supreme Court denied a request by Slaughter's attorneys for a stay of execution earlier today, Slaughter was executed by lethal injection at 6:19 p.m. today.
In his final statement Slaughter tilted his head so that he could smile at his three grown daughters, his fiance, and a death penalty opponent he befriended during his incaceration.
"It's OK," he told them. "I've been accused of murder and it's not true. It was a lie from the beginning. God knows it's true, my children who were with me know it's true and you people will know it's true someday. May God have mercy on your souls."
After his final statement, Slaughter exhaled deeply and closed his eyes. As the mixture entered his system, the color left his face. His mouth and eyes were slightly open when he was pronounced dead.

I read several of your blurbs-they are all very well written. As I read this one, I started to cry. For someone to go to their death vowing their innocence, I'd hate to stand in judgment of that. Makes me think (true, without knowing all the facts) that he really could be innocent. I couldn't decide a death penalty case as a juror-I'd have to be honest with the courtroom about that upfront.
Great writing, though.
It`s a pitty that no-one researched the lady`s past who committed suicide ????
What was her motive to do that,
any connection to the crime?
I watched a tv show called Innovation about brain finger-printing on it and it had his story on it. The show was made in 2004 and said that he had not yet been executed. I looked his name up on google after that and found the he had been executed earlier this year and I THINK ITS A LOAD OF BULLSHIT. THE MAN IS OBVIOUSLY INNOCENT! AND WHAT THE FUCK WERE HIS FIANCE AND CHILDREN WATCHING HIM BEING INJECTED FOR? ANYONE EVER HEARD OF EMOTIONAL SCARRING? THOSE WOMEN WILL HAVE SUFFERED PSYCOLOGICAL HARM AFTER WATCHING THAT POOR INNOCENT MAN, WHO WAS THEIR FATHER, KILLED BECAUSE OF A LOAD OF BULLSHIT. I am so glad I live in Australia where we do not enforce the death penalty... At least I haven't heard of any death penalties.
I also watched the TV show called Innovation and like the previous correspondent, I live in Australia and I'm also against the death penalty. This case certainly seems to be much more involved than what was shown on the programme but on the face of it there must have been an element of doubt with regard Slaughter's guilt. In Aust, guilt must be proved beyond reasonable doubt. From what I saw on that show and have read since, I would have thought that there was some reasonable doubt.

first off i'd like to say god rest the souls of all involved in this case.
we shall never know whether jimmy was guilty or not, but i am still utterly shocked on reading that he's already with his maker.
My name is Adrian Nyhagen. I come from Norway, not a country without injustic, but here you do not have to worry about getting killed for crimes you do not have committed.
I just saw the tv-show about brain-fingerprinting. I am not going to claime that he was innocent, but I can say for a fact that he would not been claimed guilty of this crime in Norway.
It was no certain evidence that connects J.R. Slaughter to the crimescene, and due to negative results of the brain-fingerprint test with an accuracy of almost 100% the doubt of he committing the crime would have been enough to let this man be set free.
It is very sad that people could be accused and claimed guilty for such a serious crime with just circumstances evidence (which may have been false in the first place).
However , although if he was guilty, no force on earth would have had the right to decide who shall live and who shall die. "Two wrongs does not make it right".
I hope that J.R. Slaughter has come to place without any injustice.

I submit to you humans are prone to error."To err is human." Furthermore, since the institutions of justice are comprised of the laws of humans and these laws are carried out by humans their outcomes are erroneous sometimes.

Of course, on a daily basis, people murder one another without any right to do so. However, we, as citizens, finance a justice system and give the justice system the right to murder people as penalty for them being found "guilty" by 12 of their "peers."
The laws of statistics show that by now the states that enforce the death penalty, collectively, have murdered an innocent human being.
The double-murder in Oklahoma looked like a human behaving like an animal. It is an outrage. I agree with you on that.

Or, life in prison without parole for the "guilty." In which the innocent, though in prison, have a chance to correct the human error and hubris of the people in positions of power.
I came her after watching the TV show innovation, that brain fingerprinting dude didn't help Jimmy Ray Slaughter too much, was he guilty? I don't think he was, it was just a circumstantial case, cops have been known to lie and frame people.
He wasn't the first innocent person who was put to death.
I agree this guy was a psycho nutjob that lost control when he found out he had no control on the paternity suit and the outcome. RIP Melody and Jessica!

Obviously he arranged the murder and ensured he was with his wife and kids. The woman committed suicide because she thought he would remain with her if she helped him out. He wanted his wife to know nothing about his 11 month old baby and undoubtedly arranged this. What is with all of these relationships with women? All he ever said was that he wasn't there...well he arranged that! He never said .. I didn't get someone else to do it. He was not innocent!
I worked with both Jimmy and Melody an believe me he was guilty. He was the scariest person I ever met. All he talked about was killing and how he got offon it. He was a devil worshipper and often bragged about it at VA. He was creepy and had no thought of anyone but himself. He got what he deserved and the world is a much better place without him
